About the Artwork
Monet's Water Lilies series includes approximately 250 paintings created between 1896 and 1926. He built the water garden specifically to paint it, importing water lilies and constructing the Japanese bridge that appears in many of the canvases. As his eyesight deteriorated, the paintings grew larger and more abstract, eventually influencing the Abstract Expressionist movement decades later.
