About the Artwork
Alphonse Mucha created "Fruit" as part of a series of decorative panels in the late 1890s. Born in Moravia (now the Czech Republic), Mucha became the leading figure of Art Nouveau in Paris after his famous posters for actress Sarah Bernhardt. His "Fruit" panel features the organic shapes, intricate borders, and idealized female figures that became his trademark. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Mucha drew inspiration from both Western decorative traditions and Slavic folk art, giving his work a unique richness.
