Gustav Klimt Hygieia - Artsy Tote Bag

Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health, wrapped in gold and holding a serpent. Klimt painted her as part of his controversial University of Vienna ceiling panels, and this fragment became one of his most iconic images. This limited artsy tote carries that golden power on cotton canvas.

  • Multiple compartments, key holder, and dedicated drink holder
  • Reinforced 'X' stitching on straps

About the Artwork

Klimt painted Hygieia as part of "Medicine," one of three ceiling paintings commissioned for the University of Vienna's Great Hall. The university rejected the paintings for being too provocative, and the originals were destroyed during World War II. What survives are photographs and this detail of Hygieia -- a red-haired goddess in an ornamental robe, a snake coiled around her arm, a golden bowl in her hand. The image has taken on a life of its own, representing both Klimt's golden period and his refusal to compromise his artistic vision.

Who Is This For

Klimt devotees, mythology enthusiasts, and anyone drawn to gold-toned art with a bold presence. This limited edition is for the person who wants their bag to carry meaning and history along with their laptop.
