In Jerusalem and Other Poems

Rooted in the rich tradition of classical Arabic poetry yet urgently contemporary, Al-Barghouti’s verse has captivated vast audiences, filling stadiums and resonating across generations.

At the heart of the collection is “In Jerusalem,” a powerful long poem chronicling an interrupted journey to the city that became a cultural phenomenon across the Arab world—recited, memorized, and carried in everyday life. Alongside it are poems shaped by exile, return, and political upheaval, including “Hanet,” written in the wake of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and shared in Cairo’s streets at a pivotal historical moment.
