About the Artwork

Van Gogh painted "Almond Blossom" in February 1890 in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, just after learning his brother Theo had named his newborn son Vincent Willem. The painting is unusual in Van Gogh's body of work -- instead of his typical thick impasto brushstrokes, he used flatter, more delicate lines inspired by Japanese art. The turquoise background and white petals create a sense of freshness and optimism that stands apart from much of his later work.

Who Is This For

A best seller for good reason. The soft blue palette goes with everything, and the story behind it makes it meaningful as a gift -- for new parents, for art lovers, or for yourself.
